GATSBY & MILLER PRESENT AT ST ALBANS FASHION WEEK
Elegant models swathed in black capes and wearing white geisha masks were the perfect foil for the stunning hairstyles our Harpenden team led by Gatsby&Miller Salon Director Julie Church, created for our own catwalk show as part of the St Albans Fashion Week.
I was delighted to lead our five-strong team and we carefully chose stark simplicity for our six models’ clothes to make sure all the emphasis was on their hair’ commented Julie.
‘Gatsby & Miller has been involved with the annual event in previous years, but for me it was a new and exciting challenge’ explains Harpenden’s Chris Goodman.
‘It was a hectic few hours as we also did the hair for 11 models in the main Catwalk Show in the iconic surroundings of St Alban’s Cathedral on Friday evening, one of the highlights of the Fashion Week.
For some team members working with the models was a real eye-opener, a high-octane experience. ‘The organisers of the fashion week take it very seriously so we knew we had to get it all absolutely right. We arrived at the cathedral about 3pm on the day and worked flat out on the hairpieces from then on and right through the event as the fashion show models each stepped out on the runway several times wearing outfits from different local businesses.
It was a tremendous challenge doing hair for the catwalk rather than in the salon but although it was very hard work, it was really enjoyable and great fun for all of us.
We were given a theme but could go slightly off track if we wanted to, so we concentrated on avant garde which worked so well – a dark and eerie look was perfect for the fantastic atmosphere of the cathedral.
And it was great to have our own catwalk show as well, with our models looking amazing with the capes and masks. Just as we’d planned, downplaying the clothes made sure the hair stood out – it was really cool. We were thrilled and proud to be part of a wonderful event. I can’t wait for next year when I’m sure we will be taking part again’.
